INTERIOR PAINTING COST · ADELAIDE

A clearer picture of the price.

The right question is not just “how much per room?” It is “what is included in this room, and what needs to happen before the finish goes on?”

Plan my repaint

THE USEFUL ANSWER

Interior painting is priced against the property and scope. Room count, surface area, ceiling height, repairs, colour changes, woodwork and access all matter. Compare written inclusions before comparing totals; a walls-only quote and a complete interior repaint are different jobs.

01 / THE DETAILS

Use published budgets as context, not a quote.

One Adelaide supplier, Pridal, publishes interior examples of A$4,000–7,500 for a three-bedroom home and A$6,000–10,000 for a four-bedroom home. These are that supplier’s examples, checked on 23 October 2026; they are not our prices, a market average or an offer. GST treatment is not stated in the cited examples.

Your property may fall outside those ranges. Ask for a current site-specific quote and an explicit statement of included surfaces, preparation, products, GST and exclusions.

What usually changes the work?

A compact room with sound walls is a different task from an ornate room with high ceilings and damaged coatings. Furniture, access and staging can also affect the work sequence.

Detail to describeWhy it changes the quote
Walls only or a full interiorCeilings, cornices, doors and trim add distinct surfaces.
Condition and repairsLoose coatings, stains and uneven patches need assessment and preparation.
Height and accessStairwells, high ceilings and restricted access change setup needs.
Existing and new colourStrong colour changes can alter the coating system.
Occupied or vacantFurniture and room staging can affect labour and access.
Deadline and other tradesHandover timing needs coordination and actual contractor availability.

03 / THE DETAILS

Be careful with a per-square-metre comparison.

Ask what is being measured: floor area, paintable wall area or another allowance. Check whether openings, ceilings, woodwork, repairs and materials are included. Two rates are not comparable until their measurement and scope match.

04 / THE DETAILS

A quote comparison checklist.

Compare room and surface schedules, preparation, paint system, protection, cleanup, expected programme, exclusions, GST and variation approvals. Clarify any warranty in writing, including what it covers and who supplies it.

Do not assume the lowest total offers the same preparation. If an item is missing, ask the contractor to clarify it before you decide.

Questions to ask before you start.

How much does interior painting cost in Adelaide?

A useful price needs the rooms, surfaces and preparation to be defined. Whole-home interiors can cost several thousand dollars; damaged surfaces, high ceilings, occupied rooms and detailed woodwork can increase the work. Use the cost guide as a planning reference and obtain a written, property-specific quote.

Are ceilings, doors and skirting included?

Only if they are listed in the quote. A walls-only price can exclude ceilings, doors, door frames, skirting, windows and cupboards. List each surface and ask whether preparation, primer, materials and cleanup are included.
